Pikachu ex has appeared in several sets: Surging Sparks (SSP 57), Prismatic Evolutions (PRE 179) and Ascended Heroes (ASC 57). It is the same card every time — it plays the same, only the artwork and the price change. Here is what it does once it is on the table.

Near Mint: only very few, tiny white marks on the edges or corners are allowed. The surface must be clean, with no scratches or visible clouding from wear. Creases or significant wear rule out this grade. Never having been played does not, by itself, make a card NM.

Intermediate pace

Its copies leave at an in-between pace.

At least 14 copies gone since 16 September
59 or more for sale on 15 October

The pokoSCORE looks at how fast copies of this card leave the listings we check every day, where collectors sell cards to each other, and compares that pace with the other cards in French that we follow. It says nothing about the price: a card can fly off the shelf and still be worth three euros.

A copy that’s gone has left the listings, and from the outside we can’t tell why. We count it if it hasn’t come back since, and only after 2 weeks when its seller had left all their listings that day. Hence the “at least”.

“Or more”: the page didn’t show us everything, so more copies may be waiting behind it.

When it came out

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

A strength
Retreat cost 1. One Energy to discard and it is back on the Bench, which matters a lot on the turn you need to swap attackers.
A strength
It has an Ability, Resolute Heart. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.
A strength
Joltik runs it in 37 of the 37 lists we have read, seen across 34 different tournaments.
A strength
It is a Basic Pokémon. You can put it down on your very first turn, with nothing to evolve through.
A strength
Mark H. It is one of the marks currently accepted in Standard: H, I, and J.
Keep in mind
It is an ex card. The turn it goes down your opponent takes 2 Prizes instead of one, and games do turn on exactly that.
Keep in mind
Weakness Fighting ×2. Against a Fighting Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 6,942 tournament lists we have read, 1,605 run at least one Pokémon of that type.
