Its Ability

Sheet Lightning

Once during your turn, when you put Zapdos from your hand onto your Bench, you may flip a coin. If heads, put 1 damage counter on each of your opponent's Pokémon.

Its attacks

Raging Thunder

80

Does 40 damage to 1 of your Pokémon, and don't apply Weakness and Resistance to this damage.

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

  1. A strength

It has an Ability, Sheet Lightning. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.

  2. A strength

It is a Basic Pokémon. You can put it down on your very first turn, with nothing to evolve through.

  3. Keep in mind

None of the 5,734 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.

  4. Keep in mind

Weakness Lightning ×2. Against a Lightning Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 5,734 tournament lists we have read, 468 run at least one Pokémon of that type.

Who plays it

None of the tournament lists we have read mentions this card. That happens with a card that has just come out, or one players have not tried yet.

Two cards of the same Pokémon can be worth wildly different amounts — it depends on the set, the rarity and the artwork. We put all 44 Zapdos cards on one page, priciest first.
