Its Ability

Sunshine Song

Once during your turn (before your attack), when you play Torterra from your hand to evolve 1 of your Pokémon, you may choose as many of your Grass Pokémon in play as you like. For each Grass Pokémon you choose, search your deck for an Evolution card that evolves from that Pokémon and evolve it. Shuffle your deck afterward.

Its attacks

Crash Impact

60

Torterra does 20 damage to itself. Your opponent switches the Defending Pokémon with 1 of his or her Benched Pokémon, if any.

Land Shake

80

During your opponent's next turn, when your opponent puts a Basic Pokémon from his or her hand onto his or her Bench, put 2 damage counters on that Pokémon.

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

  1. A strength

140 HP. Only 2 cards in Stormfront carry more.

  2. A strength

Crash Impact hits for 60 on 2 Energy. Nothing in Stormfront hits harder for that price.

  3. A strength

It has an Ability, Sunshine Song. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.

  4. Keep in mind

Retreat cost 4. Once it is out front, it stays there. Pack something that moves it another way, or you will burn whole turns discarding Energy.

  5. Keep in mind

None of the 5,799 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.

  6. Keep in mind

It is a Stage 2. You have to come through Grotle to get here, or find a Rare Candy to skip the middle step.

  7. Keep in mind

Weakness Water +30. Against a Water Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 5,799 tournament lists we have read, 2,325 run at least one Pokémon of that type.

Who plays it

None of the tournament lists we have read mentions this card. That happens with a card that has just come out, or one players have not tried yet.

The other cards of this Pokémon

Two cards of the same Pokémon can be worth wildly different amounts — it depends on the set, the rarity and the artwork. We put all 12 Torterra cards on one page, priciest first.
