Its Ability

Blaze Dance

Once during your turn (before your attack), when you play Infernape from your hand to evolve 1 of your Pokémon, you may flip a coin. If heads, search your deck for up to 4 Fire Energy cards and attach them to your Pokémon in any way you like. Shuffle your deck afterward.

Its attacks

Close Combat

60

During your opponent's next turn, any damage done to Infernape by attacks is increased by 30 (after applying Weakness and Resistance).

Spreading Fire

80

Discard 2 Fire Energy attached to Infernape and this attack does 20 damage to each of your opponent's Benched Pokémon. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

  1. A strength

Close Combat hits for 60 on 2 Energy. Nothing in Stormfront hits harder for that price.

  2. A strength

It has an Ability, Blaze Dance. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.

  3. Keep in mind

None of the 5,828 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.

  4. Keep in mind

It is a Stage 2. You have to come through Monferno to get here, or find a Rare Candy to skip the middle step.

  5. Keep in mind

Weakness Psychic +30. Against a Psychic Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 5,828 tournament lists we have read, 3,454 run at least one Pokémon of that type.

Who plays it

None of the tournament lists we have read mentions this card. That happens with a card that has just come out, or one players have not tried yet.

The other cards of this Pokémon

Two cards of the same Pokémon can be worth wildly different amounts — it depends on the set, the rarity and the artwork. We put all 15 Infernape cards on one page, priciest first.
