Its Ability

Temper Tantrum

Once during your turn (before your attack), you may discard as many cards as you like from your hand. If you do, put that many damage counters on Banette. This power can't be used if Banette is affected by a Special Condition.

Its attacks

Darkness Switch

Discard an Energy card attached to Banette, and then switch all damage counters on Banette with those on the Defending Pokémon. (If an effect of this attack is prevented, this attack does nothing.)

Loneliness

30+

You may show your hand to your opponent. If you do and if you don't have any Pokémon in your hand, this attack does 30 damage plus 30 more damage.

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

  1. A strength

Retreat cost 1. One Energy to discard and it is back on the Bench, which matters a lot on the turn you need to swap attackers.

  2. A strength

It has an Ability, Temper Tantrum. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.

  3. Keep in mind

None of the 5,828 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.

  4. Keep in mind

Weakness Darkness +20. Against a Darkness Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 5,828 tournament lists we have read, 3,611 run at least one Pokémon of that type.

Who plays it

None of the tournament lists we have read mentions this card. That happens with a card that has just come out, or one players have not tried yet.

The other cards of this Pokémon

Two cards of the same Pokémon can be worth wildly different amounts — it depends on the set, the rarity and the artwork. We put all 24 Banette cards on one page, priciest first.
