Its Ability

Energy ReactionRéaction Énergie

Once during your turn (before your attack), when you attach a Grass or Psychic Energy card from your hand to Vileplume (excluding effects of attacks or Poké-Powers), you may use this power. If you attach a Grass Energy card, the Defending Pokémon is now Asleep. If you attach a Psychic Energy card, the Defending Pokémon is now Poisoned. This power can't be used if Vileplume is affected by a Special Condition.

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

  1. A strength

It has an Ability, Energy Reaction. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.

  2. Keep in mind

None of the 5,427 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.

  3. Keep in mind

It is a Stage 2. You have to come through Gloom to get here, or find a Rare Candy to skip the middle step.

  4. Keep in mind

Weakness Psychic +30. Against a Psychic Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 5,427 tournament lists we have read, 3,231 run at least one Pokémon of that type.

Who plays it

None of the tournament lists we have read mentions this card. That happens with a card that has just come out, or one players have not tried yet.
