What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

A strength
360 HP, and nothing in Phantasmal Flames goes higher. That is the wall your opponent has to break through before taking a Prize.
A strength
Mega Charizard X ex runs it in 84 of the 84 lists we have read, seen across 77 different tournaments.
A strength
Mark I. It is one of the marks currently accepted in Standard: H, I, and J.
Keep in mind
It is a Mega Evolution ex, and that is the most expensive rule in the game. The turn it goes down your opponent takes 3 Prizes instead of one. They need six to win, so 2 knockouts on this card are enough. Send it out knowing that.
Keep in mind
It is a Stage 2. You have to come through Charmeleon to get here, or find a Rare Candy to skip the middle step.
Keep in mind
Weakness Water ×2. Against a Water Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 8,067 tournament lists we have read, 3,294 run at least one Pokémon of that type.
