Charizard ex has appeared in several sets: Obsidian Flames (OBF 125) and Paldean Fates (PAF 54). It is the same card every time — it plays the same, only the artwork and the price change. Here is what it does once it is on the table.

Near Mint: only very few, tiny white marks on the edges or corners are allowed. The surface must be clean, with no scratches or visible clouding from wear. Creases or significant wear rule out this grade. Never having been played does not, by itself, make a card NM.

Fast departures

Its copies leave faster than those of most other cards.

At least 56 copies gone since 19 September
87 or more for sale on 18 October

The pokoSCORE looks at how fast copies of this card leave the listings we check every day, where collectors sell cards to each other, and compares that pace with the other cards in French that we follow. It says nothing about the price: a card can fly off the shelf and still be worth three euros.

A copy that’s gone has left the listings, and from the outside we can’t tell why. We count it if it hasn’t come back since, and only after 2 weeks when its seller had left all their listings that day. Hence the “at least”.

“Or more”: the page didn’t show us everything, so more copies may be waiting behind it.

Its Ability

Infernal ReignRègne Infernal

Then, shuffle your deck. What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

A strength
330 HP, and nothing in Paldean Fates goes higher. That is the wall your opponent has to break through before taking a Prize.
A strength
It has an Ability, Infernal Reign. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.
Keep in mind
None of the 7,125 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.
Keep in mind
It is an ex card. The turn it goes down your opponent takes 2 Prizes instead of one, and games do turn on exactly that.
Keep in mind
It is a Stage 2. You have to come through Charmeleon to get here, or find a Rare Candy to skip the middle step.
Keep in mind
Weakness Grass ×2. Against a Grass Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 7,125 tournament lists we have read, 4,499 run at least one Pokémon of that type.
Keep in mind
Mark G. It is not among the marks currently accepted in Standard: H, I, and J. A legal reprint may still provide an exception.

Who plays it

None of the tournament lists we have read mentions this card. That happens with a card that has just come out, or one players have not tried yet.
