Ethan's Magcargo has appeared in several sets: Destined Rivals (DRI 36) and Ascended Heroes (ASC 24). It is the same card every time — it plays the same, only the artwork and the price change. Here is what it does once it is on the table.

WHAT IT HAS GOING FOR IT
- It has an Ability, Melt Away. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.
- Ethan's Magcargo runs it in 21 of the 21 lists we have read, seen across 20 different tournaments.
- Mark I. The next rotation takes mark H away, so this one stays tournament legal.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
- Retreat cost 3. Once it is out front, it stays there. Pack something that moves it another way, or you will burn whole turns discarding Energy.
- Weakness Water ×2. Against a Water Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 3,150 tournament lists we have read, 1,281 run at least one Pokémon of that type.

In Japan these cards were already in shops on 28 November 2025, under the code M2a. That is 63 days ahead of us.
