Its Ability

Deep Sleep

As long as any Dark Gengar are in play, a player flips 2 coins for each of his or her Pokémon that is Asleep at the end of each turn. If either of them is tails, that Pokémon is still Asleep. This power stops working if Dark Gengar is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.

Its attacks

Pull In

30

If your opponent has any Benched Pokémon, you may choose 1 of them and switch it with the Defending Pokémon (before doing damage or other effects of this attack). Either way, the Defending Pokémon is now Asleep.

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

WHAT IT HAS GOING FOR IT

  • It has an Ability, Deep Sleep. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.
  • No Weakness printed on the card. Nothing doubles up the damage it takes.

WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR

  • None of the 3,299 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.
  • It is a Stage 2. You have to come through Haunter to get here, or find a Rare Candy to skip the middle step.

Who plays it

None of the tournament lists we have read mentions this card. That happens with a card that has just come out, or one players have not tried yet.

The other cards of this Pokémon

Two cards of the same Pokémon can be worth wildly different amounts — it depends on the set, the rarity and the artwork. We put all 50 Gengar cards on one page, priciest first.
