What the card itself says

Its characteristics and effects in play, with the original text when available.

HP: 100
Type: Grass
Stage: Stage 2
Retreat cost: 2
Weakness: ×2
Number: 13/53
Illustrated by: Ken Sugimori

Its Ability

Solar Power

Once during your turn (before your attack), you may use this power. Your Active Pokémon and the Defending Pokémon are no longer Asleep, Confused, Paralyzed, or Poisoned. This power can't be used if Venusaur is Asleep, Confused, or Paralyzed.

Its attacks

Mega Drain

Remove a number of damage counters from Venusaur equal to half the damage done to the Defending Pokémon (after applying Weakness and Resistance) (rounded up to the nearest 10). If Venusaur has fewer damage counters than that, remove all of them.

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

A strength
100 HP, and nothing in Wizards Black Star Promos goes higher. That is the wall your opponent has to break through before taking a Prize.
A strength
It has an Ability, Solar Power. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.
Keep in mind
None of the 6,896 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.
Keep in mind
It is a Stage 2. You have to come through Ivysaur to get here, or find a Rare Candy to skip the middle step.
Keep in mind
Weakness Fire ×2. Against a Fire Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 6,896 tournament lists we have read, 1,626 run at least one Pokémon of that type.
