Its Ability

Magnetic Field

Once during your turn (before your attack), if you have basic Energy cards in your discard pile, you may discard any 1 card from your hand. Then search for up to 2 basic Energy cards from your discard pile, show them to your opponent, and put them into your hand. You can't return the card you first discarded to your hand in this way. This power can't be used if Magneton is affected by a Special Condition.

Its attacks

Magnetic Force

10×

Does 10 damage times the amount of Energy attached to all of your Pokémon (including Magneton).

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

A strength
Retreat cost 1. One Energy to discard and it is back on the Bench, which matters a lot on the turn you need to swap attackers.
A strength
It has an Ability, Magnetic Field. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.
Keep in mind
None of the 8,076 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.
Keep in mind
Weakness Fighting ×2. Against a Fighting Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 8,076 tournament lists we have read, 1,891 run at least one Pokémon of that type.
