Its Ability

Natural Cure

When you attach a Fire Energy card from your hand to Combusken, remove all Special Conditions from Combusken.

Its attacks

Lunge

Flip a coin. If tails, this attack does nothing.

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

A strength
Retreat cost 1. One Energy to discard and it is back on the Bench, which matters a lot on the turn you need to swap attackers.
A strength
Lunge hits for 50 on 2 Energy. Nothing in Ruby & Sapphire hits harder for that price.
A strength
It has an Ability, Natural Cure. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.
Keep in mind
None of the 8,067 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.
Keep in mind
Weakness Water ×2. Against a Water Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 8,067 tournament lists we have read, 3,294 run at least one Pokémon of that type.
