Chien-Pao ex has appeared in several sets: Paldea Evolved (PAL 61) and Paldean Fates (PAF 242). It is the same card every time — it plays the same, only the artwork and the price change. Here is what it does once it is on the table.

Mélangez ensuite votre deck.

Its attacks

Hail BladeLame Grêle

60×

You may discard any amount of Energy from your Pokémon. This attack does 60 damage for each card you discarded in this way.Vous pouvez défausser autant d'Énergies que vous le voulez de vos Pokémon. Cette attaque inflige 60 dégâts pour chaque carte défaussée de cette façon.

What to make of it

Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.

  1. A strength

It has an Ability, Shivery Chill. An Ability costs you no attack, so you can use it and still swing the same turn.

  2. A strength

It is a Basic Pokémon. You can put it down on your very first turn, with nothing to evolve through.

  3. Keep in mind

None of the 6,555 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.

  4. Keep in mind

It is an ex card. The turn it goes down your opponent takes 2 Prizes instead of one, and games do turn on exactly that.

  5. Keep in mind

Weakness Metal ×2. Against a Metal Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 6,555 tournament lists we have read, 903 run at least one Pokémon of that type.

  6. Keep in mind

Mark G. It is not among the marks currently accepted in Standard: H, I, and J. A legal reprint may still provide an exception.

Who plays it

None of the tournament lists we have read mentions this card. That happens with a card that has just come out, or one players have not tried yet.

The other cards of this Pokémon

Two cards of the same Pokémon can be worth wildly different amounts — it depends on the set, the rarity and the artwork. We put all 10 Chien-Pao cards on one page, priciest first.
