What to make of it
Have a look at what it does well, then at what will get in your way. After that you'll know whether it belongs in your deck.
WHAT IT HAS GOING FOR IT
- It is a Basic Pokémon. You can put it down on your very first turn, with nothing to evolve through.
WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR
- Retreat cost 3. Once it is out front, it stays there. Pack something that moves it another way, or you will burn whole turns discarding Energy.
- None of the 3,240 tournament lists we have read runs it. That does not make it a bad card — it means we have not seen it on a table yet.
- It is an ex card. The turn it goes down your opponent takes 2 Prizes instead of one, and games do turn on exactly that.
- Weakness Fire ×2. Against a Fire Pokémon, apply that to the damage it takes — it climbs fast. Of the 3,240 tournament lists we have read, 804 run at least one Pokémon of that type.
- Mark G, and that letter has already left the format. You can still play it at home, or keep it in your binder. In a Standard tournament, no: the letters allowed today are H, I, and J.
Who plays it
None of the tournament lists we have read mentions this card. That happens with a card that has just come out, or one players have not tried yet.
When it came out
Scarlet & Violet landed here on 31 March 2023.
In Japan these cards were already in shops on 20 January 2023, under the code SV1S + SV1V. That is 70 days ahead of us.
The other cards of this Pokémon
Two cards of the same Pokémon can be worth wildly different amounts — it depends on the set, the rarity and the artwork. We put all 6 Iron Treads cards on one page, priciest first.
